Carpathian Queen Bee
£25 each for Queen Bee orders over 100
The Carpathian honey bee (Apis mellifera carpatica) evolved in the unique pedo-climatic conditions of the Carpathian region, adapting to its diverse melliferous base. Romania’s temperate continental climate brings variable precipitation and significant seasonal temperature shifts, shaping this bee’s resilience.
From a taxonomic-ecological perspective, five key adaptive ecotypes exist, with some isolated populations maintaining their pure genetic traits:
- Southern Danubian Lowland
- Low Carpathian Hilly Land
- Transylvanian Plateau & Western Plain (including Banat)
- Moldavian Plateau
- Dobrogea Plateau (including the Danube Delta)
These bees thrive in fluctuating climates, making them a robust and adaptable choice for beekeepers in diverse environments.
